Another Quilt

Here is the other quilt I entered in the show... I call it "Chicken Scratch". I machine quilted this one. A cute whimsical wall hanging . It was fun to do.

QUILT SHOW

This was my quilt I entered in the quilt show our Quilt Guild put on at the end of September... For me quilting is so relaxing....well.....SOMETIMES!!

It is what they call a wholecloth quilt and mine is pale blue on one side and cream on the other. It is BIG...105'x 89". It took me quite awhile to hand quilt it but I didn't mind as it is something I love to do...The very edge is scallopped and that's where my headache began.. I wanted to make a 2 color binding, but didn't know how. After researching my books I found what I needed to go ahead.... at least I thought so!! I got the binding made but when I went to apply it the binding didn't want to lay flat..grrrrr..... So I had to take it all off and design something better and finally after much frustration I got it to work.. I think it is a very pretty quilt, in spite of the headaches I had getting it finished!!!

Another Postcard Trade.

This postcard was done with a fall theme in mind. I chose pumpkins and corn stooks for my subject.
It is done with wool rovings and my embellisher machine. The pumpkins and the corn stooks were outlined with hand embroidery.

It is the 4th anniversary and to mark this birthday we were asked to send a postcard to the gal that has been at the helm all this time. Nice going James....You have done a wonderful job.

I might add James was in France at the time so we all sent our cards to her there....

CELEBRATE

Well here we are happily married September 11, 1954..........................and 54 years later we are still happily married.Never thought 9/11 would have another meaning !!!Oh My..... we look so young.... and we were.....DH was 21 and I was 19..I was trying to find some more pictures of us as the years progressed ........Here we are helping our dear friends whom we have kept in touch with since school days celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary.We have had a wonderful life, and we are thankful.

African Wrap Dolls

These are a couple of my African Wrap dolls I made. They are really fun to do and allows the creativity to flow. The story of these dolls goes way back to slavery times. Pieces of wire or wood were wrapped with bits of wool or cloth to make dolls for the children.Each doll wears a small mirror. African folklore tells this story.....If evil sees itself in a mirror it will run away.... so the mirror is like a protector or a good luck piece.

Embellisher AT Work Again

I love trees and this scene stole my heart...so I had to make it into a postcard...

The trees were done with my sewing machine using a satin stitch.., then I placed the different wool roving colors to create the leaves , flowers etc.....and used my embellisher to punch in the fibres... After I completed this step I applied lots of french knots with embroidery floss to the various flower areas.Lots of fun.

I think it is the shadows on the pictures that makes the edge look crooked!!! They are straight believe me VBG

Meet "The Chief"

This doll I named "The Chief". It is funny how ideas are born. In this case I began with the face. Totally unplanned. I was at a face making class learning to sculpt with clay. We had a good time and made several studies in clay. When it was time to go I had a difficult time trying to pack the faces I had done so I wouldn't spoil them on the trip home. When I got home and unpacked my things I was disappointed that the very favorite face had a flattened nose ....darn.....then as I looked at it ideas started to come to mind. I thought perhaps it resembled some Indians I had been studying and the ideas burst forth..... This doll turned out to be one of my favorites and now resides in a private collection...
I might add how we doll makers use anything at hand that suits our purpose. ..... for instance his spear is a fondue fork decorated with feathers and strips of deer skin.... Neat huh?!?!
