FIBRE ART CHALLENGE

This was the fabric that was chosen for the
Fibre Art Challenge I decided to do an African Wrap Doll .The fabric seemed to speak to me with an African feeling... Notice the butterfly on the basket? I'm going to call the piece"Hitchin' A Ride"
Along with the jewellery, she has a mirror embellishment at her waist. It is there for a reason and I will tell you further on......
This is a back view...
There is a story about the wrap dolls that is interesting and here it is....
African Wrap Dolls....
This technique dates back to slavery times. Pieces of wire or wood were wrapped with bits of wool or cloth to make dolls for the children. Each doll wears a small mirror....... The African people believe if Evil can see itself in a mirror it will run away...It signifies good luck....
I Love this story and love making the dolls.... You can see others on my web page.

Back from Spring Retreat

Here are the pictures I took at our Quilters Spring Retreat. Hope you enjoy seeing them.

Hi Everyone. Well I am home from the Quilters Spring Retreat.
We had such a good time. The meals were fabulous and the weather was perfect
There were 32 in attendance , all sewing like crazy. Some made bags, some worked on jackets and quilts... me..... well I took my English Cottages to work on AGAIN!!!!. This quilt has been a real thorn in my side and I was not enjoying the journey with it. My girlfriend talked me into doing it along with her, so I jumped in although a lot of browns was not really my cup of tea. I did put a lot of money into it so I carried on..... My GF was working on hers while her DH was sick, and when he died she just felt it had too many sad memories so she put it aside......Anyway this was the 9th time I dragged this to retreat and FINALLY I got the major borders completed. They were different than what I had done before. It was like the boston common centre and a lot of sewing....I still have to make 4 corner blocks to complete the border. Believe me You will hear me when it is all done. It will be awhile as I plan to hand quilt it.

PS if you want to comment you have to scroll down a long way..... wonder why?? I tried to fix it but no luck!!!

Madam Butterfly

Here is a piece I beaded to wear as a necklace..Isn't she pretty..
I drew the form out and made the body , stuffing it very firm....
The face I made with clay and then painted.
It took quite awhile to complete but well worth time spent..

POSTCARD for another trade.
This time I tried to do some crazypatch.... Well it nearly drove ME crazy!
I really gotta practice more. I forgot to use some lace , maybe that would have made it better.....sigh!
Never mind I will practice and do better..... I will!

PUNCHNEEDLE EMBROIDERY
This was my first attempt at this art. I see in the big picture there are a few mistakes but HEY! it was my first attempt;-} With practice I will improve(Hopefully! ha)I am already working on a "Sheep" and I hope to be better....stay tuned.

I LOVE TRADITIONAL RUG HOOKING!
I am jus a beginner but here
are the first two I have done. Both need to be bound so I can hang them up. The little guy holding the pumpkin was a pattern from the October issue of Rug Hooking Magazine.. Isn't he cute!!! The second one is called"The Washing of The Quilts" and was a complete kit I bought from
Deanne Fitzpatrick, a well known hooker from Nova Scotia Canada ..Her work is awesome. Hope you enjoyed seeing them. I have another ready to go but got sidetracked with a needlepunching project... I will show you that next time.
PS... after looking at my "Washing of The Quilts" I see I missed a wee bit....will fix that right now!!!
